Hey, were being tested…

Various managements groups that have a need for your services are testing both your company and CarrierRates.

In my talks with them, they are pleased with what CarrierRates does for them. There is no charge to carriers for this service…

For example, one large company that uses are services shared the following with me. I really like what CarrierRates does for us. We have our preferred carriers and are loyal to them but when they are not there for us I use CarrierRates. On those last few orders I posted our normal carrier for that route, had an unexpected medical issue. I was put into a situation and needed quick response, I posted them on CarrierRates, problem solved.

This company’s comment clearly demonstrates their commitment to loyalty a hard thing to come by in business but you can earn it. We also received the following email comment from them after those loads were quickly booked with a carrier on our website, it said. Xxxxxx Xxxx is by far the best most reliable carrier I work with through your web site..5 stars! Wow, that’s the kind of comment any carrier would like to have sent to another business, word of mouth it doesn’t get any better than that. I believe this carrier is earning their respect and loyalty, does not mind playing backup quarterback and has vision of being the starter soon.

This carrier actions, are what cause the shipper to makes these comments, the carrier earned them though providing the customer what they wanted. A quick response with fair market pricing.

In being in the auto transport industry for over 29 years the topic I’ve heard more than any other from carriers is about “rates”. The above-mentioned carrier did not discount their bid, they just bid the fair market rate quickly to earn the business. I believe acting quick to a customer need is paramount over price to have a successful business. However, you do have to know how to price to win the business and once assigned handle the business with care, in a timely manner and keep the customer informed. Give this some thought and try it out to see what will happen for you.

The customer that made the above comments was clear, nice, very professional, reputable, has the ability to help bringing massive nationwide business to you through CarrierRates. In our talks, I was searching for what do I need to do to get their help in bringing this business to you through CarrierRates. The answered I received was clear and simple, they have no problem with what our company does, they are displeased with carriers slow or no response. This has trouble them enough that they have ask some of their preferred carriers to sign up and assigns business to them through CarrierRates. Take a moment and think about this, are they saying a quick response is more valuable to them than price.

If you do not have the ability to respond quickly let us know, we would like to talk to you and see if we can help, you solve the problem and open a door of opportunity to you.

And finely, back to being tested. There have been and are orders posted with 1 or 2 vehicles on them, labeled commercial. As you know single are very challenging to fit in and create a dilemma (opportunity) for these customers. Their dilemma is your opportunity, to open the door, earn their business, and build brand loyalty for your company to increase your success.

As always, if you have any questions or comments email them to

Hello – is there anybody in the sales department...

Hello – is there anybody in the sales department? We have been trying to reach you, however, every time we place an order we most often do not hear back from you.

This is quite often, what we hear from our shippers due to low or no respond from our carriers. While some of the carriers do reply to the customers (shippers) most do not. If the dates do not match your schedule, bid dates you can do.

Our shippers are very impressed with how easy our technology is to use and are interested in hearing back from you to complete the cycle. In fact they have no problem paying for the service, however only desire more participation from the carriers so everyone could enjoy the benefits, it is free to all carriers.

One shipper mentioned participating carriers are looking a gifted horse in the eye. All they have to do is place a bid, one that allows the carrier to make the move, show a profit and is within what the industry can bear. They have the greatest potential to sustain an existence and grow in these hard times.

We understand and hear from some of you that for a combination of reasons you are not in a position to bid on some of the moves. However, we know they’re many moves missed by carries simply not having someone in their sales department answering the customer.

If you are one of those carriers, we encourage you to give this some thought. Think about it if you win the moves, you will be branding your company to customers in positive ways and take the lead for the areas you serve.

As always, leave a comment or email us at office@carrierrates.com

Independent but dependent how interesting…

Within the automotive transportation community, independent operators acquire their business in several ways to fit how they prefer to do business.

A small percentage are able to retain clientele and have an occasional need to fill a spot or a whole load. Good for them…

While others are dependent on acquiring the moves through the various means available, they are familiar with. You know, for instance, contacting other auto transport carries, brokers, online websites such as ours, etc.

Owner operators leased onto a carrier, operate under the carrier authority and are not viewed by us as independent. Rather they have solved the problem of securing business in the joint arrangement and primarily leave the booking and dispatch to the carrier.

Then there is a new one to us (you may already be familiar with). This one is where an independent operator outsources the business of booking business for them and they also handle the majority of correspondence to the customers and so forth. It seems to be much like outsourcing repairs, maintenance, etc and the cost is simply factored into the cost of doing business, leaving the auto transporter to do what they enjoy best.

We have an interest in learning more about the independent outsourcing booking business. If you are an independent outsourcing your bookings or a business that handles independent bookings, we’d enjoy hearing from you how it works.

5% Of Carrier Base Left The Business

CarrierRates reports that of their auto transport carrier base 5% have left the business since the beginning of 2008. In an extensive study this week the finding were not amazing or alarming. Rather interesting to learn how razor thin the margins are for both the auto shippers and the auto transport truckers. Confirmation emails were sent out to all carriers whose Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration operating authority was no longer listed as active. Most that responded claimed high fuel cost took them down compounded by vehicle shippers were not able to mussel up and pay the additional transport cost.

This is a twofold story, on the side of the auto transport truckers whose ceased operations it has to be tough on them. To be faced with starting over in some other career to maintain a lifestyle they become accustom to is heartfelt by us at CarrierRates.com and we wish them a quick and steady recovery.

On the other side of the story, the auto transport businesses whose are battling off surrendering may not have more opportunity as automotive sales are down. However, they may be able to keep busy and show a next to nothing profit margin in these hard times due to the reduction in competition.

While CarrierRates.com continues having carrier sign up and grow with us, our outlook is more will be failing over the next year. We’ll see.

In regards to the vehicle shippers, they’re having a tough time as well adjusting to the carriers rate increases. Moreover, they report that there thankful for your bids and ask of you to continue to login to CarrierRates.com and place your bids. It is challenging for all but working together, we’ll get through this bump in the road.

We would would enjoy hearing from you, please take a moment and give us your comments.

What are the best practices independent auto transporters prefer using to secure business?

In today’s independent auto transport environment there is many ways for the carrier to acquire vehicles to transport. A small percentage of you have the luxury of loyalty from your customer base, however more often than not the customer is only able to provide loads one-way. While others travel to wherever the load takes them and often within a region, they prefer.

For those of you with loyal cliental that is great, however throughout the course of any given year most independent carriers are utilizing some form of assistance, such as the following.

  1. Lease onto an auto transport carrier that handle the majority of administration right up to dispatch.
  2. Independent carrier with insurance and operating authority that depends solely on one or more auto transport brokers uses a phone only for voice communication and no mobile internet access.
  3. Independent carrier with insurance and operating authority that uses internet access then if needed makes contact by phone, email or both.
  4. Independent carrier with insurance and operating authority working with all of the above.

CarrierRates is extremely interested in hearing feedback from the independent carriers on what means listed above they currently find as the most useful to them in securing the next load. In addition, what you think, feel and/ or see would be the most helpful to improve on the one or more mentioned above you are currently or considering using.

Your feedback is extremely importance to both you and us, please give this some thought and respond by either posting your comments here or emailing them to
office@carrierrates.com

The information you provide will give us a better understanding of how we may provide better tools to the independent auto transporters for profitable growth.

The bubble

Car haulers cost-cutting measures have been taking place for some time to combat the economic times for their continued existence. The bubble has been insulated for many a years by auto transporters using various ideas, in an effort to keep themselves in the mainstream. However, the bubble now been stretched to it limited and for some it burst.

On Friday the 13th, PTS (Performance Transportation Services) a finished vehicle car hauling corporation ceased operations. PTS website stated they operated out of thirty-one facilities throughout the U.S and Canada boasted a fleet of more than eighteen hundred car haulers. Operations of PTS included Leaseway Motorcar Transport, E. and L. Transport Company, Hadley Auto Transport and Transportation Releasing.

This situation obviously presents a hardship on all involved, our thoughts go out to them and hope they find their strengths, adjust and move forward soon.
